Love and Support for Every Child.
At Bumbo, we believe every child deserves a bright future. For more than a decade, we have made high quality infant and toddler products that help your little ones sit up on their own, step up to places they can’t yet reach, and build up their confidence as they gain independence and reach important developmental milestones. Our products solve every day parenting challenges, while encouraging child exploration, parent and child interaction and quality family time.
At Bumbo, we also take notice of the hardships and challenges that families in our local community in Pretoria, South Africa face. With your help, we are able to truly make a difference.
In 2005, we formed a non-profit organization to assist the underprivileged and special needs children in our own backyard. Since then, we’ve donated a portion of proceeds from every Bumbo baby product purchase made worldwide back into the community.
Thanks to the support from all of you who have made Bumbo a part of your little ones’ biggest moments, we’ve been able to give back more than 10 million dollars to help families in need in Pretoria since 2005.
Because of you, we have been able to build the Bumbo Cares facilities and develop specialized programs that support those in the community who need our help the most.
Through our Bumbo Cares programs, we’ve aided more than 1,200 children, have touched the lives of more than 15,000 students in local schools, and assisted tens of thousands of people in our broader community. But, there is still more work to be done.
My late father, Johan Buitendach, Bumbo’s founder, was passionate about making sure all God’s children are cared for, loved and provided with every opportunity for success. At Bumbo, we share his belief and continue his mission.
From all of us at Bumbo, we thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of the children from Pretoria. Together, we can help build up a better tomorrow.—Joe Buitendag

Jonibach Sports Center
At the Jonibach Sports Center, Bumbo strives to improve the lives of children in its hometown of Pretoria, South Africa. Many kids in the community come from difficult backgrounds and often lack necessary direction. At the Sports Center, children are taken away from the harsh realities of their everyday lives and can participate in activities characterized by structure and predictability. Here, professional coaches and facilitators teach and motivate them to experience and achieve success, while nurturing their emotional, social and cognitive development.
Kids can participate in a number of sports activities, ranging from badminton to archery, gymnastics, judo, wrestling, boxing, swimming, volleyball, table tennis, BMX and ringball (a traditional South African family sport). An art and music studio is available for kids who can’t be involved in sporting activities.
Through these activities, children are able to restore lost pride and self-worth, overcome their emotional anguish, and be reintegrated into society successfully.
Children from the Sports Center have gone on to compete and reach achievement in local, regional and national athletic tournaments.
The Centurion Center is a daycare and full-time school program for special needs children in Bumbo’s hometown of Pretoria, South Africa. Its classroom programs and well-trained dedicated staff provide a unique learning environment for children who have Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other life changing conditions.
The Center offers a safe nurturing setting that encourages the social, physical and cognitive stimulation and growth of children at a pace suited to each child’s unique situation. Therapists and teachers stimulate kids with tailored exercises and training to develop their communication and motor skills.
The program allows parents to provide their child with the specialized care and learning they need during the day. This is a very unique program offered in this region of South Africa. At other centers, children must stay on a permanent basis, separating them from their families.
Jonibach Child and Youth Care Center
The Jonibach Child and Youth Care Center is a haven for children in Pretoria, South Africa, where Bumbo is based. Many children have been abandoned, abused or orphaned and are placed here by social services. Some children have parents and may be in contact with them; however, their parents acknowledge that they can’t provide adequate care.
This transitional housing allows children to stay until the state can provide a foster home or arrange adoption. Some children stay for several years until they finish school. Following graduation, some adolescents may receive ongoing assistance with buying groceries, continuing education, and finding employment depending on their circumstances.
An adjacent home provides shelter and care for new mothers and babies, and in some cases, the entire family.
The Bumbo Cares Community Kitchen provides approximately 400 nutrient-rich meals per day to the local residents of Pretoria, South Africa, where Bumbo is based. This includes children of the Jonibach Sports Center, Jonibach Child and Youth Care Center and members of the community who at times cannot provide adequately for themselves or their families.
Here, children are able to obtain the balanced nutrition they need to thrive. Studies have shown that children afflicted by sustained poor nutrition are often at greater risk of physical, mental and emotional health problems, and a failure to thrive academically.
The Community Kitchen provides fresh vegetables and top-quality meats from Pretoria, supporting local farmers.
Bumbo cares about its local community in Pretoria, South Africa and is always there to lend a hand, whether it’s providing sand for a kindergarten’s playground, painting homes nearby or running a clothing drive.
Throughout South Africa, there are millions of people living in squalid conditions in urban informal settlements. Bumbo has helped to clean up local camps, maintaining buildings, planting vegetable gardens, and providing clothing and essentials like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, nail clippers and disposable diapers for babies.
Bumbo works with schools in the local community, including several high schools where teens may be victims of drug abuse or suffer from bullying. Bumbo gives motivational speeches, teaches kids important life skills and helps them build self-esteem.
A camping facility on Bumbo Cares Center grounds is made available to local schools and charities for multi-week programs.
Many students from nearby schools volunteer at the Bumbo Cares centers as community service.
Children participating in the Jonibach Sports Center programs put on plays and make Christmas cards for the elderly. They visit six local old age homes and bring joy to more than 800 seniors each year.
Through the Wolmer Project, Bumbo has built proper facilities for a local group feeding the homeless.
